method to the madness

So what’s the madness you were talking about in this mixtape?
The mixtape is more of a compilation of songs from 2018, til about 2 weeks before the tape dropped. Half of these songs was supposed to go on Bases Loaded and drop as a full mixtape back in June 2019, but my single Dice popped off so the plans changed. All the songs were curated and listed by me. My label didn’t have much to do with this tape, as I asked for the freedom to create, not only on the music end. They weren’t too fond of this, so they slowly stepped back, as I took full initiative.

What songs resonate with you the most, and what’s your mindset now that your an independent artist?
Sacrifice and Get Away were written the same day. Y.N.S was really a freestyle! That was the first song I ever mixed. It was only right it went on the tape. One day, I’m in my patio, when I was still staying with my aunt and stuff like that, and I’m messing around in GarageBand. My boy Wesside from Africa had just sent a beat through, so I popped it in. Really I was just punching in and getting a feel for the sound I wanted to hear, more so than the words, and I don’t know, but the words just came to me.
I did the song Life on my birthday with Smegol, a beautiful birthday gift, which is now my highest streamed on Apple. I did Starz with my boy Cleantop back in November 2019. We were going through beats, just catching a vibe, after we had finished the session. Once I heard that beat, we started a session back up off him, because he had a banging hook for it. That beat really sparked something I didn’t know I had inside me. I never used auto tone prior to linking with him, but boy I fell in love with it after that. Let It Go is probably Get Away part 2. I recorded that on the last day of 2019. Me and my Ex had officially broken up back in May, and I wanted to completely move forward from that stage in my life to better things.
Exploring more of my spirituality that year, letting go of trauma is something I never knew I had to. I never even knew I was traumatized to begin with. I was just going through life. Of course I had a lil’ fun on this mixtape, as I’ll prolly do on all my mixtapes, but I can say this tape opened up all six of my senses to reality, and showed that mental health and mental awareness are just as important as physical health and gaining currency. Going forward, I’ma just have a mindset of killing it. Sticking with my sound, and evolving on different levels, upgrading my self as a whole, opposed to focusing on one aspect.
